Herbal Remedies for High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure also known as hypertension has become prevalent all over the world. High blood pressure is referred to as the silent killer. The normal blood pressure of a person is below 120/80 mm Hg. If the blood pressure reading is consistent at 140/90 mm Hg or higher then the pressure is considered as high blood pressure. If it is left untreated then it may cause strokes, heart attacks, failure of kidney, injury to eyes and brains. Some of the common causes of hypertension are genetic factors, excessive alcohol, obesity, pain relievers and oral contraceptives. Other underlying causes may be thyroid disease, kidney disease, hormonal disorders and adrenal gland disease.

Some of the common but useful herbal remedies for High Blood Pressure are as follows:

Garlic: Consume 2 to 3 cloves of garlic everyday. It is one of the best herbal remedy for lowering high blood pressure. During blood circulation the pumping action of your heart causes pressure in the arteries. Garlic helps in reducing this pressure. Thrombosis and deposition of plaque in the arteries is prevented by garlic. It eases the spasm of your small arteries. It also gives you relief from the symptoms of dizziness and shortness of breath.

Alfalfa: Alfalfa is a very beneficial herb for treating high blood pressure. It has several elements which are required for making your hardened arteries soft. As a result the tension in the arteries is reduced.

Parsley: Parsley is very effective herb in lowering the high blood pressure. It contributes in looking after your arterial system. It helps to maintain your blood vessels and keeps them healthy.

Hawthorn Berries: You can use Hawthorn extracts to get relief from the effects of hypertension. It cleans and relaxes the blood vessels. It also provides protection to the walls of your arteries. But Hawthorn should not be used by people suffering from ulcers, low blood pressure and certain heart problems.

Red Clover: Red Clover is a very effective herb for hypertension. Thin and fatty blood results in poor circulation as well as hypertension. Red Clover makes the blood thin. Use its blossoms when they are rich purple in colour.

Fenugreek seeds: Fenugreek seeds i.e. Methi are also used as a good remedy for hypertension. Boil 1-2 tablespoon of fenugreek seeds and take this mixture after straining it. You can take this mixture for 2-3 months twice everyday in empty stomach.

Rauwolfia Serpentina: Rauwolfia Serpentina which is commonly known as Indian Snakeroot is a powerful herb. Only a small dose of this herb can significantly lower the blood pressure. But you will have to keep patience because it takes a few days to show its effects.

Neem: If you consume 2 leaves each of Neem and Tulsi (Holy Basil) leaves in empty stomach then you will get relief from high blood pressure. Neem tea is prepared in the same way like other herbal tea. But if you are on medication for your hypertension then please do not experiment with the Neem treatment because Neem may interact with your blood pressure medication.
